The cheapest of the braided lines which are made up of woven strands of fiber such as dyneema are three and four strand braids the cost can also be reflected by whether the strands are individually coated before being woven or as a whole after.Better lines tend to consist of higher numbers of strands typically 8 strands commonly known as super braids. Some of the problems inherent with braids are its abrasion resistence which may not be as high as traditional monofilament though in rocky areas a rubbing leader of mono is advisable.Another problem frequently encountered by those new to braid fishing are wind knots though most of these can be avoided by following a few simple steps.Firstly only fill the spool of the reel to approximately 2mm of the lip and keep under tension whilst first spooling, secondly and most importantly after casting it is good practice to manually return the bale arm and make visually sure the braid is spooling onto the reel when you begin the retrieve until any slack line has been removed. At Harvey Angling we stock the major brands such as Berkley Whiplash and Spiderwire as well as up and coming high quality braids in the form of the Rovex Viros and Airstrike.
